Beverages contain nutritive sweeteners, flavouring & colouring agents, acidifying agents, emulsifying agents etc, which influences the population of microbial growth in Beverages. Microbial testing of beverages is vital to ensure that beverages are safe to drink and free of harmful microorganisms. Microbial testing is at the forefront of anything meant for consumption by human or any living being. Microbial testing is meant to ensure safety & quality of Beverages, be it alcoholic or non- alcoholic. Microbial testing helps identity harmful micro-organisms, which can affect integrity, shelf life & most importantly consumer safety. Microbial testing can confirm if the manufacturing systems & controls adopted are effective & can be in the form of routine testing, sterility testing, spoilage testing & or troubleshooting. Microbial testing also helps in ensuring the Beverages meet the standards as stipulated by regulatory authorities at every stage of the supply chain, thereby preventing any harmful product from reaching the consumer, which otherwise could result in safety hazard & tarnishing the brand image of the producer. Yeast is the primary microbe spoiler in Beverages, apart from Molds, & Bacteria such as Lactic Acid Bacteria apart from other Bacteria, & certain pathogens such as Listeria Monocytes that can result in Microbial contamination of Beverages.
